The Phytoremediation Potential of Local Wild Grass Versus Cultivated Grass Species for Zinc-Contaminated Soil

The aim of the study was to compare phytoremediation potential cultivated grasses with local wild grass for soil contaminated zinc. Two pot experiments were carried out on artificially Zn. Four species used as test plants: Poa pratensis, Lolium perenne, Festuca rubra, and one wild, native grass: Deschampsia caespitosa. Wild seeds collected from heavy metals near a zinc smelter. determined basis tolerance index (TI), bioaccumulation (BF), translocation (TF) factors. Differences found between in reduction shoot root biomass increasing contamination studied excess Zn following order: D. caespitosa > L. perenne F. rubra pratensis P. pratensis.
